Q: To begin, tell us a bit about yourself and your background. What problem did you see in how companies manage cash that pushed you to start PayShore?
John: I'm a product and payments leader turned founder, with a career that's spanned treasury services, payments, merchant services, value-add services, and financial technology. Over the past two decades, I've built and led products used by organizations from small businesses to global enterprises, working with institutions such as JP Morgan, Wells Fargo, Mastercard, and Worldpay. I've always been drawn to solving complex problems at the intersection of banking, payments, and technology.
Across those roles and over the years, one theme kept surfacing: finance and treasury teams were being asked to operate in the increasingly complex and fragmented ecosystem of banks, payment providers, systems, and processes. Even as financial technology advanced, many organizations were still stuck with disconnected workflows, limited cash visibility, and unnecessary operational complexity. The gap between what was technically possible and the reality in which finance teams were actually living with is what ultimately pushed me to start PayShore.
Today, as Founder & CEO, I'm focused on building technology that helps businesses simplify treasury operations, improve cash visibility, and streamline B2B payments through modern banking connectivity. I'm passionate about using product and technology to solve real operational challenges, and I genuinely enjoy connecting with professionals across treasury, banking, payments, and fintech to exchange ideas and perspectives. At PayShore, our mission is simple: help finance teams reduce complexity, improve visibility, and operate more efficiently in an increasingly fragmented financial ecosystem.
Q: Who are the customers you're most focused on helping right now, and what are you hearing from them?
John: Right now, we're most focused on helping business leaders and finance operators who are dealing with growing complexity: CFOs, controllers, treasurers, and their AP/AR and FP&A teams. They're typically managing multiple banking relationships, often one to three or more banks across receivables, payables, operating, and lending, and running finance teams of roughly 4 to 30 people. What we're hearing from them is that the old way of logging into portals, downloading files, and stitching everything together in spreadsheets simply doesn't match the speed or scale of their business anymore.
Three big trends keep coming up in those conversations. First, treasury and finance teams now expect real-time or near real-time visibility into cash; they want to know where money is right now. Second, more businesses are operating across multiple banks and providers by design, which makes visibility and control even harder without a unified operating layer. And third, modern fintech infrastructure, real-time payment rails, more mature bank APIs, and better connectivity has made true multi-bank orchestration possible.
The customers we work with often come to us at key inflection points: a new CFO or controller stepping in, an audit that surfaces gaps, an acquisition that adds more banks and accounts, or simply the realization that month-end close and reconciliations are too manual and fragile to scale. In those moments, they're looking to reduce operational risk and complexity, tighten cash visibility, streamline payment workflows, and prepare for the next stage, whether that's M&A, going public, or just running a more efficient, data-driven finance organization. PayShore is built to meet them at that point and give them a modern, connected way to see and manage their cash.
Q: Beyond fixing manual workflows, a lot of finance leaders talk about wanting a "real-time, connected" view of cash. How does PayShore deliver that?
John: PayShore approaches real-time, connected cash visibility as a practical problem, and we solve it in three core ways with security at the center of all we do.
First, with a single, real-time operating layer. We centralize cash data across banks and payment providers into one operating layer, so finance teams don't have to piece together positions from multiple portals and spreadsheets. Instead of waiting for end-of-day files or manual exports, they can see balances, movements, and exposure across accounts in one place, in near real time. That foundation is what turns real-time visibility from an aspiration into something teams can rely on in their day-to-day decisions.
Second, we invest heavily in connectivity, so customers don't have to build or maintain it themselves. PayShore integrates with banks and payment rails through modern APIs and secure connections, normalizes the data, and keeps it in sync as transactions post and approvals move forward. For finance teams, that means a single, consistent view of cash across multiple banks and entities.
Third, we focus on making that visibility actionable and secure. Cash data powers workflows for payments, approvals, forecasting, and controls directly in PayShore, so teams can move from seeing to doing without leaving the platform. We've designed our architecture with a forward-looking security posture: finance-grade encryption, rigorous access controls, and an eye toward emerging standards like post-quantum-resistant cryptography. That's a topic we're particularly excited about, because the same infrastructure that connects banks and payment rails today also needs to be ready for a world where cryptographic assumptions are changing.
In short, PayShore is all about a single operating layer, modern connectivity, and secure workflows that finance leaders can trust. In our next post, we'll go deeper into how we're thinking about post-quantum security and why it matters for the future of treasury infrastructure.
Q: As we wrap this up, I've got to ask. Please tell us about Lilly, your Head of Barketing.
John: I'm glad you asked. Lilly is our office border collie and, frankly, the real force behind our culture. She takes her role as Head of Barketing seriously: continuous floor audits, crumb reconciliation, and an extremely efficient trick-to-treat ratio.
In many ways, she embodies one of our core values: tenacity. When Lilly decides something needs to get done, she will stay with it until it's resolved, whether that's securing a treat, staying close by when someone's deep in a complex project, or making sure no crumb is left unaccounted for. She's the best.
Interviewer: That's a great note to end on. Thank you for your time!
